THERAPY, COACHING
Lyn Stubbs, CHT, LCSW
I am glad you are here. Acknowledging and facing what is painful and no longer working in your life is an act of courage and love. My sincere wish for you is that you find a therapist who is "just right" for you.
If you are a couple, family, or individual ready to grow and want to work in pragmatic and experiential ways, I may be that therapist. Our first task together is to create a relationship where you experience enough safety, care, and respect to be willing to risk new ways of relating to yourself and others. We will do this by bringing a kind, mindful curiosity to what is present; this creates the space that allows you to explore what is challenging and complex. I believe that once we learn to embrace our feelings, listen to our deeper longings, know the ways our emotional history is playing out, and fully accept where we are, the journey toward healing and wholeness can begin.
Life will still have difficulties and challenges. Your capacity to be with life with more grace, peace, and love will grow through our time and your efforts. The practical side of our work together is to learn new skills. Some of those skills are listening and speaking in ways that create trust and intimacy. Ultimately, our sense of connection to others and a meaningful life makes all we go through worth it.
My Philosophy
I work collaboratively, sometimes leading with my knowledge and sometimes walking beside you as you sort and find your way. Once we access the wise part of you, I trust it will lead you toward new, vibrant, occasionally uncomfortable, authentic ways of relating. As your therapist, I will challenge you to look at yourself and others with kinder eyes. My clients often inspire me to be a better partner and person.
As a certified Hakomi therapist (and former licensed massage therapist), I listen to and access the memories and intelligence of the body; some people call this a bottom-up approach. I believe in the power of emotion as a catalyst for change and healing. The foundational philosophical principles of The Hakomi Method and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy guide my approach. They are mindfulness, non-violence, organicity, unity, mind-body integration, and loving presence.

My Education
I wholeheartedly agree with the words of Louis Cozolino, Ph.D. : “Therapists are never ‘done’ with growth; they are simply people who should be dedicated to learning as much about themselves and others as they possibly can. The best therapists are fully human and engage in the struggles of life. Our own failures help us to remain open to the struggles of others; our personal victories give us the optimism and courage to inspire those struggling with their lives.”
In 1980, I received my bachelor's degree in psychology from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Decades later, I returned to school, and in 2020, I received my master's degree in social work from the University of Georgia.
I am certified in the Hakomi Method, a mindful somatic psychotherapy. In 1987, I became a licensed massage therapist and worked in private practice for ten years.
My areas of training and focus are couples and family therapy, attachment, and trauma.
In the area of couples and family therapy, I rely primarily on Emotionally Focused Therapy and Hakomi. I have completed EFT Core Skills and EFT for Families. I am in currently in sex therapy training led by Maci Daye, LPC, based on her Passion and Presence experiential psychotherapy work. Further training in couples work includes Levels 1 and 2 and affair recovery in the Gottman Method and Terence Real's Relational Life Training, affair recovery, and levels 1 and 2. My education for attachment and trauma includes Diane Poole Heller's Dynamic Attachment Re-patterning Experience and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. I have completed DARe Levels 1-4 and Level 1 of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. I am also a certified practitioner in Becoming Safely Embodied. In addition, In addition, I have extensive training in Marshal Rosenberg's Non-Violent Communication.
As you might surmise, I am a lifelong student.
Creating a safe space for my clients to explode is at the heart of my work. As the poet Rumi so poignantly describes: "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I'll meet you there."
